A Snowy Christmas on the Chisholm Trail

Posted by Bill Benson on 12/30/2009

On Chrismas Eve, north winds began blowing a light mist, rain, sleet and then large flakes of snow.  As the day progressed snow fell harder as the strong winds continued to howl across the Chisholm Trail.  Before it was over, we received at least 10 inches of snow.  Then, roads covered with snow became ice packed, making conditions extremely treacherous.  As a result, we did not open the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center until Wednesday, December 30.
