Western Spirit Celebration 2010
Kristin Killion will be here Saturday September 18th!
Miss Killion was Miss Rodeo Oklahoma for 2008. She is a favorite of the thousands of guests that come to the annual Western Spirit Celebration: A Cowboy Gathering hosted by the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center.
Children and adults will be immersed in the western culture, art and heritage of the largest migration of cattle in U.S. history. The Western Spirit Celebration explores the substantial contribution of many multi-ethnic groups to the intriguing legends created from the impact of the Chisholm Trail on the economy, culture and nature of the settlement of the West.
This year's Western Spirit Celebration promises to be the biggest and the best. Mark your calendar now for September 18th & 19th. The annual event draws folkes from Oklahoma, Texas & Kansas.
A herd of longhorns lead by Buffalo Soldiers and flanked by cowboys, will make their way onto the grounds of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. This will kick-off this two day special event in Duncan, Oklahoma. Buffalo Soldier re-enactors will present the colors followed by the the National Anthem.
We host a Chuck wagon Cook-off with cash prizes totaling $8,000. After the judging, visitors are able to purchase tickets for a delicious chuck wagon meal.
Saturday - September 18th, entertainment by Chuck Milner, Gary Pratt, Jay Snider & Calvert & Tim Tate Nevaquaya will provide the background for this fascinating family friendly event. Saturday night we will move the stage in front of the On the Chisholm Trail Monument for some western swing dancing on the trail (literally) as we are taken back with the sounds of COWS (Church of Western Swing). Several of the band members played with Bob Wills and his Texas Play Boys. In addition, there will be western vendor booths, more Western Entertainers and the Marlow Gunfighters.
In the CHILDRENS AREA there will be games such as There’s a Snake in My Boot, Rope ‘em, Horse Shoes, Stick Horse Race, Iron Skillet Toss, What’s in the Hay & Cow Patty Toss. Pony and wagon rides will also be available.
Nationally known horseman, Buster McLaury, will interact with the audience all day by explaining and demonstrating the importance horses in working cattle. Another favorite will be a stock dog demonstration.
